Stryker Hip Implant Injury Claim / Zimmer Dorum Cup Injury Claim

Stryker Hip Defect Claim / Zimmer Dorum Cup Defect Claim

Osteoarthritis is the most common ailment that leads to hip replacement and affects over 20 million Americans.  Hip replacement surgery is an intrusive procedure that requires the implant of the cup and ball.  The new hip implants replace cartilage and bone (wear & tear parts) that are worn out.  The Zimmer Dorum Cup is a total hip replacement system that was first introduced in 2006, but which was quickly recalled from the market due to numerous defect claims.  The Zimmer Acetabular Component (Dorum Cup) was implanted in over 13,000 patients, with a defect rate of 5%.  This means that 5% of patients implanted with the Dorum Cup required at least one subsequent surgery to remove the defective hip implant and replace it with another product.

Stryker Howmedica Osteonics (Stryker Corporation) also designs  and manufactures hip implant components.  The Stryker Trident PSL and Stryker Hemispherical Acetabular Cups are used as the 'socket' part of a hip replacement and have been implanted in thousands of patients.  Shortly after introduction to the market, it was discovered that the Stryker hip implant can cause audible squeaking and popping.  Stryker hip implant defect claims report that over 7% of patients experience squeaking and popping noises, which are much higher than hip implant components from other manufacturers.  The Stryker Trident PSL and Hemispherical Acetabular Cups are ceramic and in addition to the audible defect, the Stryker hip implant is known to break apart into shards and/or wear out prematurely.

If you recently had a hip replacement surgery with Stryker hip implant or Zimmer Dorum Cup components, you may have a hip implant defect claim against these manufacturers.  Stryker Hip Defect Claims and Zimmer Dorum Cup Defect Claims must be carefully reviewed by a hip implant recall injury lawyer as soon as a product defect is suspected by the victim.

Defective hip replacements can cause serious future medical problems.  First, the defective hip implant causes extreme pain and discomfort, placing the consumer in a worse predicament than even before the hip replacement surgery.  Second, the hip implant must be removed, which requires a second or third painful and expensive surgery.  Note that subsequent hip replacement surgeries have a far lower rate of success.  Recovery from future hip replacement surgeries tends to last longer and risk of complication increases.

On January 22, 2008, the Stryker Trident PSL and Stryker Hemisperical Acetabular hip implant were recalled by Stryker Howmedica Osteonics.  In July 2008, Zimmer suspended sales of its Dorum Cup hip implant.  Both companies face numerous hip implant defect claims from injured consumers.  Defective hip implant victims have a right to compensation for their injuries.  Compensation in a hip implant injury claim can include lost wages, past and future medical expenses, pain & suffering, and emotional damages.  Negligent manufacturers of hip implants must be brought to justice.  The first step for a victim is to contact a Stryker Hip Defect Lawyer or Zimmer Dorum Cup Defect Lawyer at Schultz Legal Group.

The FDA has advised consumers implanted with either Stryker and Dorum hip implant products to be on alert for potential defects.  Recovery from hip replacement surgery is painful and lengthy.  Facing life with a defective hip implant is daunting and depressing.  Don't be victimized twice.  Contact a Stryker Hip Implant Recall Lawyer or Zimmer Dorum Cup Recall Lawyer at Schultz Legal Group by calling our toll-free victim hotline at (866) 840-3636.
